Project Description
The existing bridge on South Lyon Street over Tonawanda Creek has structural deficiencies that warrant a replacement. The project will provide a new steel truss bridge built to meet structural standards with an increased service life and minimized maintenance costs. The alignment of South Lyon Street will be modified to improve the intersection with South Main Street. Approach work is also included for a seamless transition to the relocated intersection, existing roadway, and the sidewalks.
New bridge elevation
New bridge alignment
Right of Way
The proposed alignment of the road will require right of way to be purchased on the west side of the bridge. Temporary and permanent easements will be obtained at the corners to construct the substructures, a new sidewalk, driveway adjustments and have room for a staging area for the contractor.
Work Zone Traffic Control
Vehicular and pedestrian traffic will be rerouted around the project site on a 0.8 mile long detour. The road will be closed in the vicinity of the bridge for the length of the project. Access to the driveways on the north side will be required throughout construction.
Proposed South Lyon Street Detour (0.8 miles)
